Lucy Beard, Director of the Alice Paul Institute, spoke to the students of the Leadership Institute about the fight that Alice led during the women’s suffrage movement. The Alice Paul Institute educates the public about the life and work of Alice Stokes Paul (1885-1977), and offers heritage and girls’ leadership development programs at Paulsdale, her home and a National Historic Landmark. Alice Paul led the final fight to get women the vote and wrote the Equal Rights Amendment.

Professor Shauna Shames from the Department of Political Science led a Q&A session following Lucy Beard’s presentation, in which students were able to ask questions about ongoing efforts to end the disparities between genders.

We thank Lucy Beard for coming to speak with our students, and Dr. Shames for facilitating the discussion!
