Leadership Institute Speakers Series: “Leadership Challenges and Lessons in Camden Policing”

Scott Thomson, Camden County’s Chief of Police, will be joining us on Tuesday October 20 at 4:00 p.m in the Campus Center, Multi-Purpose Room to discuss the Leadership challenges he faced when he assumed his new position. A reception will follow.

Nationally respected for his commitment to effective, community-engaged policing, Chief Thomson was sworn in as chief of the Camden County Police Department on May 1, 2013. Prior to that, he served as chief of the former Camden Police Department since 2008. Under his leadership, the Camden County Metro Police Department has made great strides in strengthening security in Camden’s neighborhoods. These initiatives have attracted national applause and attention, including a visit by President Barack Obama to CCMPD headquarters. A 1994 graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University–Camden, Chief Thomson will share his perspectives on leadership with current Rutgers–Camden students.

For a discussion of his challenges, see this link from CBS news.
